This graduate seminar evaluates the history and practice of American national security policy. We study America’s vital interests and strategy imperatives from the Founding to the present. The course addresses the circumstances and management of major foreign policy decisions and crises with lessons for contemporary strategy and policy.

This graduate seminar examines the relationship between grand strategy and US defense policy since World War II. The course examines case studies of strategies successfully executed through effective defense policies and draws practical conclusions for great power competition.

This graduate seminar examines the theory and practice of defense science and technology, including long-term technology competition, the influence of S&T on defense strategy, the role of scientists in policy, technology collaboration and sharing with allies, and contemporary implications for national security.
